International Student Health Insurance for Travelers
May 31, 2013 | By admin |
Students may be required to purchase international student health insurance in order to enroll in study abroad programs. Because many domestic health insurance policies will not provide medical coverage while traveling internationally, students often opt for international medical policies.
International medical policies can cover unexpected losses due to injury or illness under their emergency medical benefits. Policies can also include medical evacuation coverage, which can arrange transportation back home when medically necessary.
Many international medical polices will also offer a benefit called home country coverage. This benefit provides coverage for short incidental trips back to a traveler’s home country during the covered trip.
Some students studying abroad may need to purchase international student health insurance that meets the Schengen Visa requirements. A policy with at least $50,000 in emergency medical coverage typically satisfies those requirements. Countries that could require the Schengen Visa are as follows:
– Czech Republic
– Slovak Republic
The right international student health insurance can provide students with the ability to continue their education without worrying about potential accidents or mishaps abroad.
